Preparation of supports

Ready-to-use microcement could be understood as one of the simplest decorative coatings or systems that can be used when renovating and coating a surface. In fact, it does not require large-scale building work, nor does it generate debris and does not require heavy equipment for its application. The only thing that stands out when it comes to preparation of supports is the use of oscillating polishers and eccentric polishers. In addition to this, it is also necessary to use basic tools such as a drill (with the application of a mixer), a flat trowel or Italian trowel and a hoover.

Let’s remember that ready-to-use microcement is an innovative product, suitable for all types of environments. Whether for use on walls, floors, indoor and outdoor areas, furniture coverings or swimming pools. It offers an elegant and practical solution, avoiding expansion joints and creating a uniform, resistant surface that is easy to maintain and clean.

How should the preparation of supports?

Before starting to preparation of supports, the surface on which the microcement is going to be applied must be very clear, so as to choose the one that best suits the results to be achieved and the medium to be coated. In CEMENTEC there are two decorative coatings with different characteristics.

This is a phase that requires a lot of patience. Therefore, protecting the room and the elements that we do not want to damage is more than essential. In this first stage, we recommend checking the walls for possible damp or cracks. As well as, possible imperfections or floor lifting.

Keeping the surface on which the microcement is to be applied clean is also really important. Any layer of dust, grease or any other type of coating that could damage the microcement primer will result in a poorer finish than desired.

Thus, before the microcement as such, we must know that to carry out a correct preparation of supports, a layer of CONSOLIDATOR or SEAL must be applied. The consolidator or epoxy resin is used as a bonding bridge or as a vapour barrier together with the FIBERGLASS MESH. This provides highly efficient alkaline protection. This is useful for walls, floors as well as furniture and ceilings.

Application of ready-to-use microcement

Now it is time to get down to work. On the one hand, we find the BASE microcement. This is ideal for application both indoors and outdoors and on any type of surface (tiles, marble, stoneware, cement, plaster, etc.). HIGH TRANSIT BASE microcement, on the other hand, is an evolution of the first product, which intensifies the quality of resistance. It is designed for floors (above all) with high pedestrian traffic, such as: Restaurants, shops, offices… And for covering materials such as marble, terrazzo, porcelain elements, self-levelling mortars or stoneware floors.

Your choice will depend on the aspects you want to prioritise and the type of reform you have to face. This should be absolutely clear before tackling the preparation of supports.

Finish with a sealer coat

What next? After selecting and applying the microcement, the last phase in the preparation of supports is to use a sealer coat as a finish. At CEMENTEC we have created the PRIMER product. A pore-covering product that achieves the surface sealing of the microcement, through a surface layer with great adhesion capacity.

General uniformity and protection against knocks, abrasions and liquids. Although microcement stands out for its resistance, its exposure to this type of collisions does not make it impassable. As with other materials, care must be taken to ensure that it is fully guaranteed.
